Tasogare Cosplay FAQ

1. Do you really make all of your costumes yourself?
- Yes, we do. Some of us have more sewing experience than others, but we make all of our stuff.

2. But what about that one thing that you bought on Ebay?
- We do sometimes buy pieces of costumes here and there, depending on what part is needed. Not everything is easily makeable and sometimes it simply isn't worth the time. If we're cosplaying someone who wears jeans, it's far easier and efficient to simply buy a pair of jeans and then alter the style or details to suit us than it is to make jeans from scratch.

3. Can you make me a costume?
- Sure, if you go and put in an order.

4. Well, I need it in 2 weeks.
- Well, you might be SOL in that case. This is a side business that we run, so we all have lives and families, not to mention our OWN stuff to work on.

5. Oh... well, how about 2 months? 2.5 months?
- For specific time-related questions, your best bet is to email Taichou at usoyami@gmail.com and see what she says, as she does most of the sewing and makes the final decision in regards to what commissions we take and don't take.

6. Well, I could go and buy that same fabric for ____$, why should I have to pay you more than that?
- Because in addition to paying for the cost of materials, you're also paying us for our time, labour, not to mention shipping if you don't know us personally.

7. Well, I can get that same thing online/at the mall/off ebay/etc. for ____$ less. Why won't you match their price?
- Because much of the "store-made" costumes out there are not nearly as good quality. They're factory-made and they honestly look BAD in most cases. Not to mention, our prices are based on what WE feel is an appropriate cost for the amount of work involved for us. If you don't like it, you are welcome to go elsewhere. We won't cry over it.

8. Wow, you sound like an elitist bitch. What's wrong with a store-bought costume anyway?
- Sure, I'm an elitist bitch, if that's what you think. But most store-bought costumes just don't LOOK that nice. It's obvious from the stitching and the quality that they are factory-done, bulk-made costumes without hardly any time or effort put into them. And no offense, but no SERIOUS cosplayer is going to take you seriously if you wear for example, that Naruto Chuunin vest you bought at Suncoast. Because you bought it? NO. Because it just looks awful. And those of us who slave and spend time and money on our cosplay don't like seeing some joe schmoe who buys a vest and a hitai-ate getting praised the same as us. It's insulting.

9. Ok, so I get the whole store-bought = bad thing. So will you make me ____________?
- Generally, the answer is always yes. I have yet to turn down a costume, but that doesn't mean the day won't come. Your best bet is to just put in your order and we'll talk.

10. I saw a commissioned costume in your gallery that I really liked. Can you make me one too?
- This basically translates to "do you make duplicate costumes". And the answer is that most of the time, yes. If the costume is an actual character, of course. If it's a concept, or an OC, probably not. Not to say that I won't make one person a male Hyuuga Hinata costume just because I made one for someone else, but things like concepts are never going to be exactly the same. That's the whole point of a concept, is that it's something you thought up on your own. As for OCs, no. Those are the property of the person who created them, and you'll have to ask THEM if they're cool with you swiping their idea.

11. I make my own costumes and I wanted to know how you made __________________, so that I could duplicate the process. Can you give me your plans/notes?
- Well, I don't normally make actual plans or notes, but for the most part I'm v. open to sharing my methods with others. Some things, if they're personal or it's a specific method that I want to keep to myself, I won't share. But most of the time I'm happy to walk you through the steps I used to make something.

12. Will you teach me how to sew?
- Sorry, but unless I know you IRL, I do not have time to give sewing lessons.

13. Well, I know how to sew, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to do ______ stitch/hem/cut/etc. Can you help me with just this part?
- Now these, sure I can help. I don't have a problem at all walking people through difficult sewing procedures

14. I was looking through your photoshoots and I LOVE how you do your pictures. What kind of camera do you use?
- Not all of those are taken with my camera, but I use a Canon Powershot SD1000.

15. Ok, so I have a good camera, can you teach me how to take shots like you do?
- Not really, unfortunately. I can certainly give you some tips on lighting and angles, but my biggest suggestion is to take your cosplay out on a free afternoon, and just practice. Take lots of pictures, in lots of poses. Use different lighting, make use of your setting and most importantly, get IN-CHARACTER. And just have fun.

16. Can you teach me how to Photoshop my pictures?
- No. I definitely don't have the time for that, so unless it's a simple little thing, don't ask.

17. Can I be your friend?
- Sure, just don't expect to be friended back, this is a business journal.

18. Can I have your RL contact info so that I can stalk/call/visit/etc. you?
- ................no. If you want me IRL, then meet me at a con and become friends. Then you might get it.

19. Can I go to cons with you? I really want to go to _____________ and I have no ride/hotel room/money/etc.
- This one's tricky, but I'm gonna have to say no. Unless I'm actually friends with you, I'm gonna turn you down.

20. I think you took a picture of me at _____________ con. Can you send it to me?
- Again, no. I post all the con pictures that I take up here for viewing fun, you are welcome to take any that you like but I'm not making special emails.

21. Do you have a MySpace/Facebook/personal LJ/etc. that I could friend?
- I will shoot myself in the foot before getting on either EmoSpace or any of it's derrivates. As for my personal LJ, you can have it if you find it, but again don't expect to be friended if I don't actually KNOW you.

22. Can I join your troupe?
- Read the info page and read the rules. That will give you your answer.
